In February 2020, following an initial constitutional complaint, the German Constitutional Court declared the corresponding law, first passed in 2017, null and void, due tothe reason that only around 35 of the more than 600 members of the Bundestag were present for the corresponding vote.
For a detailed report (german language) see here.
At the end of 2020, the Bundestag and Bundesrat had passed the law again with identical wording. Two new constitutional complaints were received in Karlsruhe before the end of 2020 (Ref.: 2 BvR 2216/20 and 2 BvR 2217/20). It has not yet been decided when the court will rule on the constitutional complaints and the associated urgent appeal. One of the plaintiffs is the lawyer who had already obtained the first decision. It is not known who is behind the second appeal.
